Long Term Program (27 months)

Our long-term community members make a radical commitment to spirituality, community, service, and simplicity for 27 months. If you have explored our website, you know that we are passionate about the healing, education, and transformation of children in Honduras so that they may become healthy Christian members of society. We believe that our community of helping hands play a crucial role in this process for each child.

With a commitment to prayer and intentional community, we work together to serve primarily as educators or medical professionals. Other responsibilities include recreation activities, pastoral ministers, and construction/ maintenance/ agriculture. All of us commit to a ministry of presence, prioritizing people over projects.

Upon acceptance into the program, everyone must complete a background check, Diocesan safe environment training, and attend a virtual orientation retreat in June. Before arriving at the Farm, missioners attend Spanish language school in Guatemala in August and September for 4-8 weeks to assist them in mastering Spanish.

*Families are welcome to apply with more than 2 years of marriage. Please contact us at missions@farmofthechild.org to learn more about what life at Farm of the Child as a family looks like.

Our Summer Service Program

Summer volunteers’ main role and responsibility is to enter fully into community life as a positive presence and witness to the love of Christ. Volunteers provide two extra pairs of helping hands and are expected to maintain, protect, and build the mission of the Finca. More specifically, they are asked to cover many essential tasks and responsibilities of the long-term missioners so they are free to take their much needed vacations.

Generally serving as substitute teachers, summer vols provide instruction in Spanish and must be prepared to teach anything from kindergarten to 9th grade to special education, during any given week. At the same time, La Finca's mission is slowly moving toward relying less on missioners in the school, and more in the homes. This signifies that volunteers may, according to their ability, have the opportunity to engage in other areas of the Farm, such as working with house parents, doing larger projects with the maintenance staff (agriculture, gardening, painting, and many forms of manual labor), and technological and organizational support. Persons knowledgeable in computer hardware/systems and automotive mechanics are always welcome. There is also an opportunity to help in the clinic for those with certifications in the area of nursing or medicine.

Summer Vols are also responsible for a wide array of other activities, such as supervising the children's work and study hours, leading girl scouts, coaching soccer, tutoring, spending as much time as possible with the children, and just stepping in and lending a hand wherever help is needed. They also share the responsibilities of cooking, cleaning, helping with daily prayer (morning prayer and nightly community activities), and attending community meetings with the Farm staff and long term missioners. Summer vols are expected to participate fully in the spiritual and communal life of the Farm and are encouraged to share their unique gifts and talents in service of the children and mission of the Farm.
Join us for a summer you’ll never forget!
