I spent the majority of my life at Finca del Niño, a place that became my home. When I turned 18 and it was the time for me to leave, as many others had done, a new chapter opened up for me. I'm now 19, balancing my high school studies with a three-year college program in San Pedro Sula.
Last August, I got the best surprise ever! Lic. Lorena, Lic. Jorge, and Nate, who I knew from Finca, came to visit me in my new mountain home in San Pedro Sula. It was so awesome to catch up and share what I've been up to. We even got a little taste of the Finca life, which brought back so many good memories.
High school has been a blast. I've been exploring San Pedro Sula on the weekends, learning about the culture and agriculture. Simple things, like sharing a meal with friends, have made it all worthwhile.
As part of my junior year, I went back to Finca to do my agricultural practicum. It was so fulfilling to plant gardens and work towards making the Finca more self-sufficient. Spending time with the new missionaries and catching up with the older girls has brought a sense of warmth and familiarity.
It hasn't always been easy, but it's been totally worth it. I'm so grateful for the opportunities I've had and the support of the Finca community. As I move forward, I'm carrying the lessons and values I learned at Finca with me. I want to make a difference and be a voice for those who can't speak up for themselves. I dream of becoming a lawyer and fighting for justice, especially for children.
Even though Finca was a safe and loving place, I couldn't ignore the struggles and hardships faced by countless other children in my country. Seeing how tough it was for some people really lit a fire in me. I realized I had a chance to use my education and privilege to make a difference. I want to create a world where every child, no matter their background, has an opportunity for a good life
I dream of a future where every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the chance to reach their full potential. Through the power of law, I hope to protect their rights, advocate for their well-being, and ensure that they have a voice.
My time at Finca has shaped my purpose. It taught me compassion, resilience, and a commitment to social justice. I'm so grateful for everything it's given me.
